Whither the storm?

Matey is slowly learning about weather now that she has a good reason to try to understand it and is finding it’s surprisingly interesting, and complex. Something unusual is still happening (apart from the whetting of Matey's appetite for weather knowledge). Currently it should be averaging around 27 degrees and fine – Matey's notion of perfection. Instead, (as well as some of those perfect days) there have been storms, strong winds – and today Matey heard that maybe the cyclone season is coming early. La Nina may be with us for a little while yet so it’s possible last summer’s weather patterns will continue. Let’s hope not.

Captain and Matey are both impressed by the information available on the BOMsite. Heading back to safe waters a wee bit late on Saturday they found themselves outpaced by a thunderstorm, with lightning zapping closer than comfort required. Being able see the storm on the BOMsite radar as it was happening and see what was coming, how long it was likely to last, and where to go to try to avoid it made an experience that could have had some anxious moments almost enjoyable. Thank you BOMsite!
