Captain being true to his word, Sunday has been a day for becoming better acquainted with the anchor (the Delta). With strong winds continuing we made our way outside the canals of Cleveland to an area where a few boats were already anchored, just to keep things interesting, and tried anchoring again to either perfect the procedure or consider a different fate for the Delta.
First attempt saw the anchor drag once again. Oh dear – what was to be done? But then it occurred to the Captain that perhaps in strong winds it wasn’t necessary to ‘lock’ the anchor in place using the motor as the wind was already doing this. Using the motor as well was possibly too much, causing the anchor to travel along the top of the sea floor and not take hold. So, second attempt (following the joy of manual winching in by the Matey) and we just let the wind do its thing – and several hours later and winds up to 40 knots and we were still in the same position!
‘Don’t doubt the Delta!’ decreed the Captain. No doubt it will be subjected to further testing, but its future life prospects have improved.
