To Platypus Bay

For the last week or so we’ve stopped at several pretty freshwater creeks along the northern coast of Fraser Island all of which run beside and more or less parallel to the beach for quite a distance before turning inland: Coongul Creek, Woralie Creek, Bowarrady Creek and Awinya Creek. Finally we stopped at the Lagoon at Wathumba at the beginning of Platypus Bay. Blessed with warm days, sunshine and calm waters, Matey felt inspired to take some pics …

Some neighbouring campers made Matey ponder whether there might be a correlation between size of fishermen’s beards and proximity to the equator – beards seem to be getting larger as we go north. Perhaps they grow them for protection from the sun? Hmmm ... dual purpose beards? As the nights are quite cold they would serve as doona too. Sadly, Matey didn’t think to get a photo of our new friends with their impressive foliage until after they had left.

To Bundaberg
With fresh water accessible close by our water stocks lasted well. The revised vegetable preservation plan has proven quite successful. After a 4 am start and a slightly rough trip this afternoon we arrived in Bundaberg for restocking so we can make our way to the reef islands - hooray! This meant a healthy dinner of fresh prawns and chocolate eclairs. Fortunately it also means good internet access!
