Stonehenge

We’re slowly making our way up the west coast of Fraser island, trying to escape the cold snap. Thanks to meeting Pat, a local from Tin Can Bay, we stopped at Yankee Jack Creek (Tumbowah), not far from Ungowa. We were able to venture along the deep creek via dinghy through the mangroves to pure fresh water, though the familiar brown colour from the tannin. At an earlier time logging had been carried out there, but the bush appeared to be recovering. A very pretty spot – thanks for the recommendation, Pat.

We then made our way to Ungowa, slightly further north, to anchor for the night. There is a wreck at Ungowa, Ceradotus, and an abandoned ranger station, previously a logging facility. With tracks hard to find at the last couple of anchorages and sandfly infested beaches, plus a 24 hour drenching of rain at Ungowa, Matey was craving a walk (through she did manage to get some exercise rowing at Yankee Jack Creek).

Later this afternoon we arrived at Ballargan, further to the north at Fraser Island, where there is an old jetty (McKenzies Jetty) and a beautiful forest walk. It seemed to be the right time of day for photos ...

Your photos are sensational Matey!
All well down south, M and C going strong. Hope all well with you and the Capt.
Lovely to see the colors along Fraser coast again, so extraordinary and beautiful. Hope the dingoes remember their manners and keep their distance.
Take care,
S

Pop approves of all the photos and the boat. I think he is glad it is bigger than the proverbial tin can he'd been imagining. He was very happy to see pics of you. C happy you look so well but as you can imagine the lifestyle wouldn't suit her! Too much water! They loved hearing from you last night.

Yes, injury city here at present. Not sure what has happened but all 4 of the Billy Lids have injuries. Mick going well and in recovery mode.
We wonder where the Capt has stored the bike.

Good to know Mick recovering well - hope rest recover soon too!
The bike fits with the other one at the back where the hammock is. Will put up a pic when poss but reception tediously slow here. Will try again but might have to wait until somewhere with more bars - could be a while ...
